Does menopause and hormone changes affect our skin?
In my experience, yes it can. During my peri-menopause years, in my mid-late 40’s, I developed acne rosacea,
Natural, holistic skincare based on traditional remedies and tonics….with a modern twist
What you can expect from Just The Tonic skincare is they won’t contain any Parabens, SLSs, Phthalates, mineral oils or any other nasties.
Our ingredients suppliers are chosen for their quality and values for our and your peace of mind. You can view our list of suppliers here.
We try to source recyclable and recycled packaging to keep Just the Tonic as ethical as possible.
Our products are holistic, meaning whole (mind, body & soul), their aim is to nourish your mind and mood as well as your skin, which is why we use only pure essential oils and no synthetic fragrances.
If we take a holistic approach to our skincare, we are doing the best for our whole selves.
We know how stress, diet and the environment have an impact on our skin, we’ve read and heard it time and time again, yet we still treat our external appearance separate from our internal health. Sometimes we don’t link the two together and expect a cream alone to solve our skin issue.
This is our message and the aim of Just The Tonic skincare. Good skincare will definitely help the appearance of your skin, because good skincare has lots of skin loving natural nutrients in it, and this is our passion, to provide the best we can. By also feeding our bodies and minds the best we can, looking internally as well as externally, we will get the best results.
Our skin is our body’s largest organ and part of our immune system. It offers a barrier for our internal organs, it regulates our temperature and water loss, it protects through our sense of touch and it’s an indicator to our health. It’s time to look at ourselves as a whole being.
Just The Tonic is a holistic skincare and aromatherapy company.
We base our skincare on traditional remedies or ‘Tonics’ as they were sometimes named by the old style Apothecary. Then we’ve given them a modern twist by including skin beneficial ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and pre-biotic.
We’ve researched the medicinal benefits of wild herbs and plants, such as Elderflower, Dandelion, sea buckthorn and Rosehip to name a few, and added them to our range, most of which is aimed at sensitive skin prone to dryness and redness, commonly associated with the menopause and hormonal changes. Although, with each product packed full of natural vitamins, antioxidants and minerals, they are great for any skin type (see below to read about my own skin issues).
At Just The Tonic, we hand make natural skincare products using the best natural, sustainable (and organic where possible) ingredients we can find, and although a few of our products aren’t Vegan as they contain Beeswax, we only use cruelty free ingredients, so our whole product hasn’t been tested on animals.
When using natural products, it’s possible for them to vary slightly from batch to batch. Sometimes you may notice the colour or scent could be ever so slightly different from your last product. This is due to using natural ingredients, as no two plants are exactly the same, just as the fruit and veg you eat don’t look and taste exactly the same. Rest assured the recipe and the quality will be exactly the same, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about our products.
My name is Joanne and I started Just the Tonic officially in 2022. Although I’ve been making products for family, friends and clients for about six years, it was during the pandemic that I decided to make it a business.
I’m a qualified holistic therapist in Reiki, Reflexology and Aromatherapy which is where I developed my love of a whole, natural approach.
I love seeing the results of helping others and I’ve always enjoyed making products for clients, such as arnica & comfrey for aches and pains, Aromatherapy balms to help with sleep etc.
I’ve been qualified in Aromatherapy since 2013. It was my love of Aromatherapy that started me on the path of exploring the benefits of plants.
When I started suffering from rosacea and sensitive skin during my mid to late 40’s I started looking at natural ingredients and formulating products to help myself. This led me to complete two skincare courses. I took an intensive week-long, hands-on course in Croydon which was a great experience for me. Then I studied online at The School of Natural Skincare where I gained a diploma in formulating in 2017. Next began years of writing and testing skincare recipes at my kitchen table, mainly to suit my irritated, sensitive skin. I now realise my skin issues were part of my menopause journey, so if you’re at this stage in life, I hope my skincare can help you too.
